3 Things Every Believer Needs

This powerful teaching from Colossians challenges us to examine whether we're truly reflecting Christ's character in our daily lives. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossian church to combat false teachers who were diluting the truth about Jesus—mixing Jewish traditions, Greek philosophy, and a watered-down Christianity that required no real transformation. Sound familiar? We face the same temptation today to create a comfortable Jesus who accepts us as we are without calling us to change. But the message is clear: truth requires us to die to self and trust in Christ's resurrection. We're called to have three essential qualities—faith that leans our entire personality on Christ in absolute trust, love for all the saints (even the difficult ones), and hope of eternal life that keeps us eternally minded. The challenge hits home when we realize that if our lives looked the same a year ago as they do today, something is wrong. True faith produces visible fruit. We can't claim to be crucified with Christ while clinging to bitterness, resentment, or sin. The uncomfortable reality is that loving people sometimes means telling them the truth rather than pandering to their feelings. Jesus didn't die so we could stay comfortable in our sin—He died so we could be transformed. Are we reflecting His character internally, expressing it externally through love, and living with an eternal perspective?
